The Important Usages of Diatomite

One of the important uses of diatomite is used to make filter aids. Through using powdered products of diatomite, rigid granules, suspended materials, colloidal particle and bacteria in liquid can be filtered out, which contributes to the filtration and purification of liquid.
The main applications of diatomite filter-aid are listed as followed:
(1) Seasonings: MSG, sauce and vinegar;
(2) Beverages: beer, white oil, rice wine, fruit wines and grape wine and other kinds of drinks;
(3) Medicines: antibiotics, artificial blood plasma, vitamins, liquids of boiled medicinal herbs and various kinds of liquid medicines;
(4) Water processing: tap water, industrial water, industrial waste water disposal, swimming-pool water and the water in bath;
(5) Chemical products: inorganic acid, organic acid, alkyd resin and titanium sulfate solution;
(6) Industrial oils: lubricating oil, cooling oil in mechanical rolling , electric insulating oil, all kinds of engine oil, diesel oil, gasoline, kerosene and petrochemical industry;
(7) Edible oil: rape oil, soybean oil, peanut oil, tea seed oil, sesame oil, palm oil, rice bran oil and lard;
(8) Sugar industry: fructose syrup, high fructose syrup, cane sugar, glucose syrup, beta vulgaris sugar stevia sugar and honey.
(9) others: enzyme preparation, vegetable oil, seaweed gel, electrolyte, dairy, citric acid, gelatin and bone glue etc.

The second most important use of diatomite is to be used as functional fillings. It is mainly used in the aspects of coatings, plastics, rubber, medicine, toothpaste, abrasive materials and chemical reagents. For example, structural fillings can adjust the gloss and brightness of the coating. Besides, diatomite can be used as abrasive materials in silver polishing powder to polish the surface of metals. It can also be used as an adsorbent, for it can absorb 2.5 times as much water as its own mass. The specially processed diatomite powder seems still to be "dry", even after an addition of 50% of its mass.

Thereby, the amount of beneficial bacteria on the wall increases, which will benefit to resolve the pollution materials and keep the indoor air fresh.

Diatomite due to its micro pore and its absorbing performance, is used as liquid filtration agent and bleaching materials in sugar, wine and other food industry and petroleum industry.

Diatomite, in the industry of coating, paper-making, plastics, rubber, pesticides, fertilizers and others, is used as adsorbent, fortifiers and filling agent.

Diatomite is used as filter materials of antibiotics, vitamins and herbal extracts in medical and pharmaceutical industry.

Modified fine soil of diatomite, in environmental protection, is used as sewage purifying material.

Diatomite, due to its high melting point, high thermal stability and acid resistance, is used as materials to produce the heat insulation bricks and refractory lime which can be widely used for various ceramic industry.

Diatomite is also used as admixtures and catalyst carrier in petroleum industry.

Diatomite is also used to produce vanadium catalyst carrier.

Diatomite with poor quality can be used to make pottery particles as asphalt road fillings and cement blending materials.
